Uncle Triumph” is one of my favorite ways to perform triumph.

The reason it is my favorite triumph is that the process of setting up the effect is so quick that you have extra time to build up the effect itself without rambling about the condition of the deck.

I don’t like to talk too much about mixing the cards face up and face down.

Riffle-shuffling the cards with a bridge is a strong enough visual impression to make sure that everyone understands that you have mixed the cards in a very chaotic way. There is no need to keep emphasizing the fact that you mixed the cards.

Even if you want to emphasize the fact that the deck is in a very unusual condition, do it casually.

You may casually (false)cut the deck a couple of times without mentioning the condition of the deck. Spectators will see what’s going on with their peripheral visions/central visions and come to a conclusion in their minds.

Although building up an effect is important, I believe talk-less and hint-more can, sometimes, be extremely powerful because your spectators are the ones convincing themselves to believe in something. Not you, the magician.

Open Prediction is one of the legendary effects that everyone used to work on.

I like Open Prediction more than ACAAN because of its simplicity. I wanted to learn a perfect version so I can perform this incredible effect in my performance.

However, after doing a ton of research, I realized that none of them meets my expectations. (I even got to check out 51 Faces North by Stewart James)

I tried quite a few unorthodox methods to get the perfect open prediction, and “Breath Mint” is my final answer.

I have performed it for small crowds and in parlor situations. I have even done it in my offline lectures and not explain it just to mess with them.

I have entertained numerous lay spectators and fooled a lot of magicians with “Breath Mint”.

The method may seem a bit… not workable, but please give it a try. You will be surprised by how powerful it can play in your performances.

When I was about 5 years old, I saw someone hold a rock in his hand and turned it into gold… of course, it’s a cartoon. The man was Midas, fyi.

To me, that is how real magic should feel and look like. However, when I got into magic, I got hugely disappointed because of… those retention vanishes and what not.

Shrimp” is my best effort to create the most magical coin vanish.

I didn’t share how to perform it in real life in this tutorial, but if you want to do it…

First of all, the angle is very acceptable if you are only performing for 1 person. You may consider performing “Shrimp” to only 1 person as you gifting an extremely intimate and special gift to this person because he/she will never see something like this from anywhere else.

How to perform “Shrimp” depending on your performance condition:

1) If you have a table in front of you, then just lap the coin after the vanish as you turn your wrist down.

2) If you are standing with a jacket, then roll up your sleeve immediately before the vanish. After you vanish the coin, pull your sleeve down a little bit to cover the coin. #CompleteVanish

3) If you are performing with a t-shirt on AND standing, then, after the vanish, pretend to grab the invisible coin from thin air with your right hand and use your left hand to grab the coin to produce the coin again.

I highly recommend you to only perform “Shrimp” either when you have a table in front of you or when you are wearing something with sleeves.

If done right, “Shrimp” can be extremely powerful. And in order to do it right, do not reproduce the coin.
